Events around the world commemorating Rachel Corrie’s life

Below are events happening on March 16, 2007, commemorating Rachel Corrie. If you organized an event, please let us know by contacting us.

Washington, DC
Poets Against The War
Note from organizer, Reuben Jackson:
My wife and I are planning a March 16th event (we plan to red from Rachel’s letters) at our house in DC. We saw “My Name Is Rachel Corrie” in NYC in November of last year, and at the risk of uttering a cliche, I have not been the same.

Vienna, Austria
Women in Black and Jewish Voice for a Just Peace (Austria)
Note from organizer, Paula Abrams-Hourani:
We have held vigils for Rachel Corrie every year since she was killed and will do so on Friday, 16 March 2007. This time we will extend the memorial vigil to all of the thousands of victims of the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land….we think she would agree with this.

Jerusalem and Italy
Turin University and Al-Quds University
Note from organizer, Stefania Fusero (Centro per la Pace e la Nonviolenza “Rachel Corrie”):
This is to inform you that we have decided to mark the 4th anniversary of Rachel’s death by joining a project launched by Turin University together with Al-Quds University, East Jerusalem, named “A Book for Jerusalem”. The project means to promote cultural exchanges between students and teachers as well as enable Al-Quds Faculty of Foreign Languages to set up a library of Italian culture. On March 16th we’ll prepare a stall in the piazza below our premises on which we’ll show material on Rachel and where the local citizens will bring their books for the project. We believe that trying to promote a culture of peace is consistent with Rachel’s ideals.

  1. David Hartsough Says:

THanks Rachel for your beautiful and powerful life. YOu truly believed that we are all children of God and are brothers and sisters and we have a responsibility to defend one another against violence and death from whatever the source of that violence. Your life is an example for all of us. May we all live and work for the world in which war and violence and injustice is ancient history!

  2. Richard R. Rivard Says:

Rachel Corrie’s Memory lives on in the hearts and souls of ALL peace and justice-loving people throughout the world. Her life and martyrdom were not in vain. “To Everything there is a Season and a Purpose under Heaven.” My prayers go out to her family and friends. Let us keep “Hope” Alive Together!
